Mark the child's forehead with a cross saying: Lord, bless this child. As you have filled their day with sights and sounds, activities, and relationships, bless their night with restful sleep and pleasant dreams. May tonight's sleep strengthen them for the new life and growth that tomorrow is sure to bring. We ask this in Jesus' name.
Each night, take time to chat with your child about what they did during the day, their happy times and their sad times. Make this a relaxed time, without a feeling of being rushed. Make being together a privilege and a happy time.
Select a special place where you and your child have had enjoyable times together. Select a quiet place. BE sure you are relaxed, peaceful and able to communicate with love. Hold your child on your lap facing forward. Talk about God and the things he created.
Create a bedtime ritual to ease the separation from the parent and the passage from waking to sleeping. Rituals may include a bedtime snack, telling or reading story, saying prayers, singing songs or listening to soft music. The repetition of these rituals offers a sense of comfort and safety for the child.
