The Catechism of the Catholic Church says, “Sacramentals derive from the baptismal priesthood: every baptized person is called to be a ‘blessing’ and to bless” (CCC, 1669).
Usually when we think of a blessing, we recall blessings done by a priest or deacon. The quote above from the Catechism calls each baptized member of God's Family to be able to bless.
Some people can, with the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, be able to spontaneously find the words for a blessing. Most people are more comfortable using blessings than can read. Below we offer blessings you can print and use at your family's special events.
When your child was baptized, you as their parent made the sign of the cross on their forehead. When you put your baby or child to bed, bless them by making a sign of the cross on them and saying "God Bless You".
As your child grows, mark a container Holy Water and obtain the blessed water from the silver dispenser in our church. Purchase a water font or use a special bowl for the holy water. You may dump the holy water onto the ground where it an be absorbed in God's creation. NEVER put it down a sink. Use this water to bless your children as they enter and leave their home.
